■ 文構造チェック

分詞が導く句が文全体(の述語動詞)を修飾するものを分詞構文と呼ぶ。原則として分詞で表す。文頭・文中・文末のどこにでも置ける。

意味は主に5つ:
① 時「〜するとき」 Walking along the street, I met an old friend.
② 理由「〜なので」 Feeling tired, she went to bed early.
③ 付帯状況「〜しながら/そして〜する」 He entered the room, smiling brightly.
④ 条件「もし〜すれば」 Turning left, you will find the store.
⑤ 譲歩「〜ではあるが」 Admitting his fault, he still refused to apologize.

構造の型:

→ 分詞構文の意味上の主語は、修飾する主節の主語Sと一致するのが原則(sheがfeel tiredしている)。

受動の分詞構文(過去分詞から始まる形)
Seen from another angle, the sculpture looks different.

→ the sculpture is seen「その彫刻が見られる」という受動関係なので過去分詞から始まる。
